There is something about a train that evokes nostalgia around the holidays. Perhaps it’s those wonderful childhood memories of setting up a model train underneath the sparkling lights of the Christmas tree, or a reminder of “coming home for the holidays,” during a time where extended family members, with Christmas gifts in hand, were often met at a train station.
While the North Pole Express sounds like something out of a children’s winter wonderland fantasy, it’s actually a real-life experience that kids, and kids-at-heart, can enjoy in New Hope, Pennsylvania, less than an hour’s drive north of Philadelphia, and a little over 90 minutes southwest of New York City.
Passengers can experience the perfect mix of an old-fashioned holiday and a winter wonderland fantasy on the North Pole Express, operated by the New Hope and Ivyland Railroad. This hour long event might even become a favorite family tradition for many years to come.
Santa and Mrs. Claus join passengers on the North Pole Express, which is pulled by a vintage diesel locomotive and travels through the scenic Bucks County countryside on its journey to the North Pole.
The festively decorated rail cars are filled with holiday cheer as the train chugs merrily along its way.
There are sing-alongs with the musicians that roam through the train playing Christmas carols, and plenty of tasty treats too, including hot cocoa and freshly baked cookies. An array of other beverages and light snacks are also offered for an additional fee.
Kids can whisper their wishes to Santa, pose for photos, and will even be given their own special gift from the man himself. Both children and the grownups are encouraged to wear pajamas to make it an extra-special fun and relaxing ride.
The North Pole Express runs from mid-November through December 31st at various times from late morning to evening on select days.
Be sure to book online as far in advance as possible to avoid disappointment, as this popular event sells out quickly.
