From Kea Island in Greece to New York City, Baja, Kyoto and beyond, there are some exciting hotel openings to look forward to in 2021. If you’re looking for luxuries once it’s time to travel again, you’ll find plenty of them. As with just about everything this year, keep in mind that while construction has continued with most, there still may be some delays due to COVID-19, but there is definitely a bright future to anticipate.

Stanly Ranch - Napa Valley, California
This new luxury resort and residential community sits at the southern edge of the Napa Valley on 96 acres at the 712-acre Stanly Ranch along the banks of the Napa River. Nestled among the vineyards, it will include 135 open space cottages with walls of windows opening onto patios that overlooking the vines and Mayacamas Mountains. There will also be 70 Vineyard Home residences and 40 furnished villas. A vast lawn will be the resort’s center, and there will be an espresso bar and a cycling livery next to a bakery for guests to pick up coffee and picnic baskets to take on riverside riding excursions, among many other perks like sunset concerts. Multiple pools will be included along with a spa and fitness studio.
Auberge Susurros del Corazón - Punta De Mita, Mexico
Located just north of Puerto Vallarta on the Pacific coast of Mexico overlooking Banderas Bay on the Riviera Nayarit, this resort is taking shape on a bluff fringed with tropical, spilling down to a white sandy beach. Susurros Del Corazón, a new destination from Auberge Resorts Collection, will include 59 hotel guest suites and 30 contemporary beachfront residences with direct access to the water. Banderas Bay is renowned for its outstanding snorkeling, surfing and fishing. Guests and residents will enjoy a long list of amenities, from three pools and four eateries to a massive fitness center and a kids’ club.
One&Only Resorts Kea Island, Greece
One&Only’s second opening in Europe is in the beautiful Cyclades on Kea Island, the closest in the archipelago to Athens, accessed in an hour by ferry. It’s known for its charming villages, tranquil golden beaches and hilly terrain with ancient paths that lead to temple ruins. The beach property will house both a resort and One&Only Private Homes, where guests and residences can enjoy a wealth of experiences for all ages along with a destination spa, indoor and outdoor fitness hubs and a soft sandy beach.
Aman New York - New York City
Aman will soon unveil a new urban sanctuary to the Crown Building with its gilded grandeur, the former home of the first Museum of Modern Art. Located in the heart of Manhattan, it will include 83 rooms and suites along with the brand’s first urban Residences. It will include a three-story spa with a dramatic indoor pool surrounded by day beds and fire pits, a jazz bar and an Italian restaurant. The views will be impressive with its building’s windows and terraces looking out to parkland and the city skyline.
Alila Marea - Encinitas, California
This new beachfront resort is expected to open in January 2021, located in North County San Diego, about 30 miles from the San Diego Airport and 100 miles from LAX. Part of the World of Hyatt, it will feature 130 garden and ocean view rooms, with the design inspired by the natural elements of the coastline. There will be a spa with saunas and saunas and steam rooms, and a fine dining restaurant, helmed by an award-winning San Diego native chef, serving dishes made with the finest local and sustainably sourced ingredients, along with wedding venues that include oceanfront bluff and an open-air terrace.
Four Seasons Chao Phraya River, Bangkok
This new Four Seasons hotel overlooks the Chao Phraya River in the center of Bangkok, providing an urban sanctuary with lush gardens, waterfalls and mirror pools that form a natural extension of the river. Guests will enjoy sweeping water views from the lobby as well as the outdoor lap and infinity pools. The Premier River-View Rooms will showcase wide-open riverscapes. A spa and complimentary kids’ club will be hosted too, with a focus on dining, running the gamut from Cantonese, including a show kitchen headed by a Michelin-star chef.
Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo Otemachi, Japan
The Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi towers above the heart of the capital, providing spectacular Imperial Palace views. Located where its eminent business district and peaceful palace gardens meet, the ultramodern, spacious guest rooms and suites will include options with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the gardens. You’ll be able to enjoy sky-high gourmet meals from the rooftop terrace and an indoor lap pool too. Its VIRTÙ destination bar will provide a “Paris meets Tokyo” against a backdrop of glittering cityscapes.
Kimpton Kawana Bay Resort, Grenada
Kimpton Kawana Bay will offer Grenada’s newest 5-star resort, a hillside retreat nestled between dramatic cliffs and the famous Grand Anse Beach. It will host 163 guestrooms and suites, all of which will enjoy an ocean view along with features like surround sound audio systems, satellite TVs, mood lighting, mini-bars, and gourmet coffee machines. A long list of luxuries is planned, including an infinity-edge pool, chef-driven restaurant, lounge, lavish spa, beach bars and water sports.
Mandarin Oriental Palace - Lake Lucerne, Switzerland
The iconic Hotel Palace Luzern, which first opened in 1906, located in the heart of the city along the shores of Lake Lucerne, is in the process of being extensively renovated and will be re-opened as Mandarin Oriental Palace, Luzern. It will include 146 rooms and suites with breathtaking lake and mountain views. There will be a restaurant and bar, spa and fitness room as well as a variety of social and meeting facilities. Every single room, suite and dining spaces are being given a facelift by high-end interior designers, while the grounds are also being redesigned and landscaped.
Montage Big Sky, Montana
Montage is opening a resort with a hotel and residences in Big Sky, Montana – it will be the state’s very first ultra-luxury five-star resort. Located at Spanish Peaks Mountain Club, a private ski and golf course community less than an hour’s drive from the entrance of Yellowstone National Park, it sits on over 3,500 acres of wilderness and will include luxurious guest rooms, suites and turn-key residences with five-star amenities. Guests will be able to take advantage ski-in, ski-out access to Big Sky Resort’s 5,800 skiable acres, an 18-hole golf course right on-site, close proximity to world-renowned fly-fishing, hiking, wildlife watching, mountain biking, Nordic skiing and snowshoeing trails.
LXR Shozan Resort Kyoto, Japan
Slated to open in the fall of 2021, Hilton is opening Kyoto’s first property under the luxury LXR Hotels and Resorts brand, situated at the foothills of the Takagamine mountains in the northern part of the ancient capital. The new 114-room LXR hotel will form part of the 28.6-acre Shozan Resort Kyoto which will include Japanese gardens, historic Japanese architecture, authentic tea houses, and five restaurants serving authentic local fare. Guests will be within walking distance of the iconic Kinkaku-ji “Golden Pavilion” and other historic temples.
Six Senses New York
Six Senses New York is set to open in the spring of 2021 in an unparalleled location in sandwiched between the Hudson River and The High Line in Manhattan. Guestrooms and suites will offer every modern convenience, with a calm and contemporary vibe, while two restaurants will feature the brand’s popular culinary approach to wellness with a menu of fresh, seasonal and locally-sourced produce and ingredients. Guests will also be able to indulge in a variety of treatments at the Six Senses Spa, a mix of science and human awareness.
