Seven miles of beach are identified as “Old Orchard Beach”, which is more along Maine’s southern coastline. While the state is largely known for mountainous terrain that meets the deep aqua waters, this top destination in Maine is flatter and more accommodating for running and playing. Stroll shops on the boardwalk, eat at restaurants on the historic pier or visit the famous amusement park with classic games and rides on the sand. Old Orchard Beach is a coastal playground, and these are the top hotels in the area.

Atlantic Birches Inn is that quaint place folks look for when planning a perfect Maine getaway. The early 1900s abode and an additional cottage have been converted into a charming retreat just a short walk from the beach itself. However, from some of the rooms, guests can catch glimpses of the shimmering ocean waters. A heated pool resides in the back, and the made-with-love breakfast consists of fluffy muffins and savory quiches. From the hospitality to the traditional decor, you’ll feel like you’re home.
The Rebekah Inn is another snug accommodation, and you could almost throw a rock to the beach. The inn meets all your needs with comfy rooms and warm decor. Enjoy coffee on the deck, or a hearty breakfast in the morning before hitting the waves, and feel like you’re staying with family rather than at some random establishment. It’s worth noting that suites do not have private baths, but with a place this cute and cozy, we kind of get it.
Echo Motel and Ocean Front Cottages has managed to mesh a squeaky clean version of 1990s hotel style with traditional Maine exteriors into its adorable hotel. Lots of foliage, shingle siding and ocean views add to the appeal of the ideally located accommodation. Cottages are available to those looking for more seclusion, and they are warmly accented with glossy woods and scenic porches. The large pool is heated, so even when summer nights get chilly, guests can enjoy a dip. Echo Motel falls under “budget-friendly”, most definitely.
The Edgewater has an undeniable beach feel with white wainscoting and powder blue walls adding that airy ambiance. Classic, yet polished, this is a wonderful spot to base your waterfront vacation. Proximal to main attractions and eateries, just park the car and enjoy carefree strolling. A heated pool awaits after your day on the beach. Three generations have continually cared for this lovely inn, and the personal touches make this quite evident.
Friendship Oceanfront Suites has modern touches within many of the diverse rooms on the oceanfront property. Certain suites feature sleek wood floors, small kitchens and even bunk beds. The pool is the central gathering spot where the kiddos can splash while the adults soak in the ocean horizon. Grab a cup of complimentary hot chocolate or tea and watch the sunset from a balcony.
Ocean Walk Hotel’s rooms are pleasantly basic with light tile floors, fold-down Murphy beds and at times, small kitchens. Balconies allow guests to soak in the amazing summer breezes, and the beach is steps away. On colder days, the indoor pool is a lifesaver, while also being quite luxurious. The dramatic wooden ceiling is fixed with skylights, while the pool is surrounded by a beautiful etched patio, more than meeting indoor pool expectations.
The Beach House is reminiscent of an oceanside mansion but is actually a hotel. Gorgeous suites are well equipped with kitchenettes or huge picture windows for seaside gazing, or of course watching the sunset. Local restaurants with seafood galore are within walking distance, so breezy strolls through the Orchard Beach area are always warranted.
Sundecks, a heated pool, easy beach access via a scenic sandy path—The Beachwood is equipped for short or long stays. You could get a suite with a little kitchen to cook up some local seafood. But restaurants are nearby, and fruits or Starbucks coffee can be accessed in the lobby. Recently a hot tub has been added to the grounds, and if you’ve got kids, an amusement park is right next door.
Royal Anchor Resort is situated around a picturesque pool and manicured lawn, perfect for a day full of outdoor fun. Just beyond the little haven is the beautiful Maine waters. Rooms are updated, but still have that New England flare, as does the entire hotel. Countless rooms have an excellent view of the coastline from their private balconies, which are the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine or coffee. Breakfast is complimentary, with a lovely selection of pastries, fruits and proteins.
Crest Motel, like many others, has pretty basic rooms that meet all the expected needs, but this gem really shines when looking at the amenities. The pool and hot tub are enclosed via see-through panels, kind of like a greenhouse, so guests can enjoy the sun without any chilly breezes during cooler months. A backyard style courtyard is equipped with multiple grills, a playground and picnic tables for plenty of outdoor recreation. Free popcorn is truly the cherry on top for kids and their families.
