Savannah is a popular destination in Georgia for travelers looking to learn about history, enjoy amazing cuisine, and soak up some Southern charm. However, there’s also a lot of beautiful nature just waiting to be explored around Savannah, and one of the best ways to experience it is on a camping trip. There are RV spots available at private resorts, state parks, and in nearby towns to make your trip comfortable and adventurous at the same time.

Skidaway Island State Park Campground
Skidaway Island State Park is an awesome place to visit for the day to go hiking, but you can extend your visit here with a stay at the Skidaway Island State Park Campground. There are 87 tent, trailer, and RV campsites at this state park, which spans 588 acres of land and also have three cabins. The camping area for RVs has sewer hookups and allows pets. You can use the playgrounds and outdoor fitness equipment while camping here and hiking the six miles of trails. Wi-Fi is available at the park office but not the campground.
River’s End Campground
The River’s End Campground is a great home base for your Savannah adventures because it’s just a 15-minute drive from downtown Savannah. It’s a Tybee Island campground that’s just a few blocks (about half a mile) from the beach. The campground offers a large pool, gift shop, and cabin rentals in addition to the RV sites. For RVs, there are regular full hookup sites that have 30/50-amp electric service, sewer, water, and cable TV. Preferred full hookup sites are also available that are larger. Primitive tent sites, as well as water/electric-only sites, are also available here. Overall, there are 100 sites available at the campground.
Savannah South KOA Holiday
There’s a highly recommended KOA campground in Savannah that has spacious pull-through sites and shaded back-in spaces by the lake. This campground offers a swimming pool, fishing with no license required in the lake, and rental boats to take out on the water. There are cabins and tent sites here in addition to the RV sites. Campground amenities at the Savannah South KOA Holiday include Wi-Fi, cable TV, a dog park, firewood, propane, and a tour shuttle for an extra fee. RVs up to 70 feet long can camp here.
Camp Lake Jasper RV Resort
You’ll be in a convenient place to visit Savannah, Beaufort, Hilton Head, and other areas when you book a site at the Camp Lake Jasper RV Resort. This resort offers full hookup sites with 30/50-amp electric service, lakefront sites, free Wi-Fi, and picnic tables. It’s by a 320-acre nature preserve and has a lakeside center with a swimming pool, laundry facility, showers, horseshoe pit, and gas grill. There’s a general store here for supplies and a dog park to let your pet run around leash-free. For this campground, you can book your site online or by calling the office.
Hilton Head Harbor RV Resort and Marina
You can stay on the north end of Hilton Head Island at the Hilton Head Harbor RV Resort and Marina when you want to visit the Savannah area. There are 200 sites here with 30/50-amp service, Wi-Fi, and cable TV. There are showers, an RV store, a tennis court, laundry, and a restaurant onsite. Also, this family-friendly resort offers pools, a hot tub, an exercise room, and a playground. Onsite water sports and rentals are available here. Waterfront sites are more expensive than interior sites, and rates vary by season too.
Creek Fire RV Resort
Travelers to Savannah enjoy staying at the Creek Fire RV Resort, which has RV sites, cabins, and tent sites. For RVs, there are 209 back-in and pull-through sites with full hookups. It is 20 minutes west of downtown Savannah and close to Interstate 95 and Highway 204. There’s a lake activity area here with rentals and a nature trail. The RV resort has a heated pool, hot tub, billiards tables, ping pong, and darts as well. Other fun features are the kids’ splash pad, lazy river, sports courts, restaurant, and shuttle service for an extra fee.
Red Gate Farms RV Park
Established in 1931, Red Gate Farms has a campground that puts you close to downtown Savannah and in a peaceful setting at the same time. It is a family-owned and operated destination with Southern charm and surrounded by nature. Activities to do while you stay at the Red Gate Farms RV Park are swimming, horseback riding, bird watching, fishing, and walking on nature trails. The campground has a clubhouse with a pool table and TV as well. This is a pet-friendly campground with fire pits and picnic tables at the sites and coin-operated laundry onsite too.
Tuck in the Woods Campground
Experience South Carolina Lowcountry while still being close to Savannah with a stay at the Tuck in the Wood Campground. This destination is on St. Helena Island and a little over an hour from Savannah, so stay here to explore the broader region on a longer camping trip. You’ll be in a rural setting and have 80 RV and tent sites here. Reservations are not required, but you can call to make one. The RV sites have 30/50-amp electric service, while other amenities are laundry machines, Wi-Fi, cable TV, and a playground. The park is pet-friendly with some breed restrictions. RV storage is also available here, as well as a stocked freshwater fishing pond.
Savannah Oaks RV Resort
You’ll be just 20 minutes from historic downtown Savannah when you book a campsite at the Savannah Oaks RV Resort. This RV park spans 24 acres of land and has oak trees with Spanish moss along the Ogeechee River. When you’re here, you can easily visit the Golden Isles of St. Simons, Jekyll, and Sea Islands too. The amenities offered at the resort include a pool, hot showers, free Wi-Fi, laundry, a playground, a dump station, and a boat ramp. Most of the sites are pull-throughs and shaded. There’s a store onsite for supplies, onsite RV repairs available, and fire pits for rent. In addition to the 30/50-amp RV sites, there are also cabins available to rent. Dogs are allowed here with breed restrictions on monthly sites.
Hardeeville RV Thomas Parks
You’ll be close to Savannah (10 minutes) and Beaufort (30 minutes) when you stay at the Hardeeville RV Park. There are pull-through sites here and 20/30/50-amp service. Leashed pets are welcome here, and the park offers free Wi-Fi and cable TV. This is a family-owned campground that accepts cash, checks, or money orders only – no credit or debit cards.
Fort McAllister State Park Campground
Another state park worth checking out and camping at when you’re in the Savannah area is Fort McAllister State Park. The park is south of Savannah along the Ogeechee River and close to I-95. The Fort McAllister State Park Campground has 67 sites for tents, trailers, and RVs. The park spans 1,725 acres and has cottages, picnic shelters, group shelters, and pioneer campgrounds available for rent too. This is a fun place to be because there’s an Earthwork Fort, Civil Warm museum, gift shop, boat ramps, and playground here. The park offers a variety of programs throughout the week so you can learn about soldier life, wildlife, crafts, and more while you camp.
Lotts Island Campground & Marina
The Lotts Island Campground & Marina is located at the Hunter Army Airfield and a great place to camp for people who are soldiers, veterans, or affiliated with the military in some way. This campground is open year-round and accepts reservations 90 days in advance. Pets are allowed as long as you keep them on a leash and clean up after them. There’s a stay limit here and no showers or laundry facilities. This is a small RV park with 16 full hookup sites and that costs $20-$25 per night. The area also has a marina with boat slips and a fishing pier.
Sunshine RV Park
The Sunshine RV Park is eight miles from downtown Savannah and about 30 minutes from the beach. It has a convenient location that’s also just a mile off of I-16 and Georgia Highway 307. This is a low-key campground that has over 70 full hookup sites, all of which with electric, sewer, water, and cable TV. The average site here is about 30 feet by 65 feet in size. There are daily, weekly, and monthly rates available at the Sunshine RV Park, as well as apartments available to rent by the month.
