You may have heard about the famous “Sliding Rock” located outside of Brevard in North Carolina. But did you know that’s not the only natural waterfall to explore in the Tarheel State? Cashier’s Sliding Rock, located near the town of Cashier’s, is another natural swimming hole and water slide that’s great for a family outing.
In the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina, Cashier’s Rock features a flat rock face for sliding down and a large swimming hole at the bottom for splashing and swimming. There’s a short, easy trail to get to the top of the rock, but make sure you take a moment to enjoy the view before you hop on for a quick but exciting ride down the rock.
Because of the natural terrain, wearing river shoes is best to protect your feet. And, of course, little ones may also want to wear a life jacket. Although some areas of the rock face have worn away over the years and caused small “potholes,” most rocks offer a smooth sliding experience that’s incredibly close to the trail side.
The large swimming hole at the bottom provides a relaxing space to wade and enjoy the sun, while fishing enthusiasts may want to bring their pole along and try to catch some trout from the Chattanooga River. Just be sure to fish only from above the bridge since the property below the bridge is privately owned.
Cashier’s Rock is easily accessible from several different trails at the parking area off Whiteside Cove Road. Since it is also conveniently located close to Cashier’s, NC, and Highlands, NC, there is plenty more to explore nearby, including dining and shopping in these quaint mountain towns.
