Having lived in Colorado for over a decade, I often traveled throughout the state and enjoyed stays at many different hotels and resorts. While some are perfect for families, others are perfectly designed for couples seeking a romantic retreat. You’ll find them in some of the most popular cities, including Denver, Boulder, and Colorado Springs, as well as in the majestic Rockies. No matter what type of romantic getaway you’re looking for, you’re sure to find the perfect place to book among these fantastic properties.
One of the best couples resorts in Colorado, the historic Broadmoor was built in the late 19th century and sits along the shores of Cheyenne Lake at the edge of Colorado Springs. The sprawling resort is often named among or at the top of the state’s most romantic hotels providing the ultimate in luxuries. There are three championship golf courses, an outdoor infinity pool with lake and mountain views, and a long list of activity options, including paddle boating and fly fishing. You’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to dining and drinking, with over a dozen different venues, from casual cafes and pub-style eateries to fine dining on gourmet fare. One of Aspen’s most luxurious resorts, the Little Nell is a 5-star hotel that sits at the base of the Silver Queen Gondola in the heart of town with ski-to-door access. Several custom-designed adventures can be enjoyed right from the property, including fly fishing and cycling. It was created by restoring a 19th-century ghost town with accommodation in historic log cabins, providing the perfect opportunity to disconnect from the “real world” and reconnect with each other. All have unique decor and upscale perks like fireplaces and wood-burning stoves, and those who want to bring their four-legged friend can book the dreamy pet-friendly tent suite. The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa offers luxury in the Mile High City. A historic landmark in Denver since 1892, it offers old-world charms with romantic Victorian decor, a luxurious spa, and multiple restaurants that include award-winning dining at the Palace Arms restaurant, which has a wine list with nearly a thousand different selections. There’s an English-style tavern that hosts live music, and a cafe for enjoying a lavish champagne brunch too. Guest rooms offer period elegance and standard amenities that include Keurig coffeemakers, flat-screen TVs, and iPod docks.
Estes Park is a beautiful mountain town just outside the eastern entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. The Stanley Hotel offers a romantic base in a famous landmark property that opened in 1909. It’s famous for inspiring Stephen King’s The Shining and you’ll hear plenty of ghost stories if you join a guided night tour. Spa treatments are available and there are two fine dining restaurants for romantic dinners along with a whiskey bar. Accommodation includes traditional rooms in the main building that may or may not be haunted, and rooms in an adjacent lodge, some with Jacuzzis and mountain views. One- to three-bedroom condos are available with fireplaces and whirlpool tubs.

Couples who love to ski epic slopes will especially appreciate a stay at Sonnenalp Hotel. One of the top hotels in Vail, it sits right at the base of Vail Ski Resort. It’s idyllic during the warmer months too with easy access to hiking and there are multiple indoor-outdoor pools, an 18-hole golf course, and an outstanding spa. You’ll find many romantic eateries in the Bavarian-style downtown and right on-site, while rooms and suites feature custom-made Bavarian furniture, exposed wood, bathrooms with heated floors, and mountain views. Suites add gas fireplaces for extra ambiance.
If a romantic ranch stay in Colorado sounds appealing, the highly rated C Lazy U Ranch is the place to be. It offers a wide range of activities, including whitewater rafting, horseback riding, fly fishing, skiing, and sleigh rides. There’s a luxe spa for pampering treatments and delicious ranch fare is served with dishes like aged western beef and Rocky Mountain trout. Deluxe rooms come with fresh fruit baskets, plush robes, and stocked minibars with options for fireplaces and jetted tubs. If you prefer to be immersed in nature while still enjoying a more upscale experience, luxury campouts that include a large tent with a king-size bed, firepit, S’mores kit, and more can be arranged too.
Hotel Telluride offers a romantic mountain retreat with a free shuttle to the gondola for skiing and to downtown Telluride’s top bars, restaurants, and shops, although both can easily be reached on foot too. Enjoy an intimate boutique experience with rooms that include some of the most comfortable beds in town, along with all the modern conveniences and private patios or balconies. The two suites come with fireplaces too. A romantic adults-only B&B, Purple Mountain Bed and Breakfast is just a few blocks from historic Elk Avenue in beautiful Crested Butte. In the winter, guests can take advantage of the free shuttle to get to Crested Butte Mountain Resort for some of the state’s best skiing. Set within a historic 1920s building, there are just six cozy rooms, all with comfy beds that include Egyptian cotton linens and 32″ flat-screen TVs. Some have balconies too. There’s a day spa on-site, an outdoor hot tub, a living room with a fireplace, a hot chocolate bar, and complimentary beer tastings. The Cliff House at Pikes Peak is located in picturesque Manitou Springs. Tucked between Pikes Peak and Colorado Springs, its historic district is filled with spectacular buildings that house art galleries, boutiques, and restaurants, while the famous Garden of the Gods is a short drive away. Just an hour’s drive north of Denver, The Elizabeth Hotel is an elegant boutique property perfectly situated in Old Town, a historic district with a wide range of shopping, dining, entertainment, and more. You’ll be impressed from the moment you enter with the hotel’s swanky spiral staircase, while the themed suites include options like the Music Suite with an in-room grand piano. Even if you don’t book that one, there’s an Instrument Lending Library available. The hotel hosts live music on a regular basis too. All of the chic rooms include record players, 49″ flat-screen TVs, and coffeemakers. Some have balconies with city and mountain views.

The small but charming Ouray Main Street Inn sits within two restored 19th-century homes with mountain-view rooms and also includes a cabin. Enjoy amenities like welcome bakery baskets, satellite TVs, coffeemakers, minifridges, and microwaves, along with private decks and partial or full kitchens. It’s only a block from restaurants, shops, and galleries downtown, while the river and picturesque hiking trails are nearby too.
