If simplicity is what you were looking for, nothing could be better than this timber-framed off-grid cabin in Challis, Idaho. Set amongst a historic ranch, there are many beautiful things to see and hear, along with the distant trickling of a nearby creek. The beauty is enhanced once the snow falls, and this also brings a wealth of activities from snowshoeing to cross country skiing.
Peering over the lake waters in Sandpoint, this property is located near one of the West’s most beloved ski resorts, Schweitzer Mountain. The ski resort is extra special, considering those hitting the slopes can take in both the mountains and views of the lake. It’s an unbelievable winter vacation activity. Inside is both rugged and refined, with a sleeping loft looking over into a snug living space.
McCall is the quintessential winter town, with a festival complete with ice carving competition, and a year-round famed Christmas shop barely tipping the iceberg. While nearly everywhere in Idaho is scenic, McCall has both a lake and gorgeous snow-covered slopes encapsulating the town. So this traditional log cabin is ideally set. Inside is a unique circular fireplace in the center of the living space, keeping everything nice and toasty.
This 1970s A-frame has been gorgeously remodeled to fit every modern expectation, while still remaining quite cozy. A gorgeous staircase, stone fireplace, and a brighter palette than most cabins, this gem is a wonderful place to spend time with family. Located on Lake Cascade, winter activities such as ice fishing is steps outside the door. Pass the turkey and the pumpkin pie, because you’re going to love cooking in that kitchen.
Handcrafted details come together in this quaint abode near Victor. This adorable small town is known for its huckleberry milkshakes and relatively close proximity to Jackson Hole. With a rock chimney and ambient wood interiors, a family of six can cozy up by the wood-burning stove with fresh baked cookies and hot cocoa on a snowy morning.
StarFire cabin is in northern Idaho, which is lushly coated with cedar and aspen trees. Being that Sandpoint is only a few minutes away, the lake and Schweitzer Mountain ski resort are options for endless activities. The cabin itself is completely classic. This area is famed for winter activities, and gorgeous natural water features set against a snowy scenery. Bonus – there’s a pool table space in the basement.
Also located in adorable Victor, this cabin has a touch of elegance and sparkle that would be even more magical around the holidays. That huge stone fireplace to hang the stockings upon, the lavish enormous kitchen for preparing a family dinner, and plenty of snug beds – it was basically made for folks to come and experience it together.
Not everyone loves the darker, wooden cabins. That’s why this option is so great, because it offers a brighter aesthetic, with skylights and plenty of airy colors. The home can sleep quite a few people, as it features traditional bedrooms and really snug bunk space for the kids. McCall is truly a wonderful town to be in winter.
