Maui is an ideal destination for a family vacation. While it offers plenty of big outdoor thrills, along with jaw-dropping tropical scenery, it also has lots in the way of family-friendly activities from splashing around at the pool to building sandcastles on the beach, boat excursions, sunset luaus and the Maui Ocean Center. Considered one of Maui’s top luxury properties, Four Seasons Maui is set along Wailea Beach among plumeria trees and boasts three saltwater pools, one with a huge swim-up bar that’s submerged in an infinity pool providing a view of the Pacific and the often mist-shrouded mountains in the distance. It also features an underwater music system and bubble loungers (chaises built into the water) while lots of lush greenery surrounds it. Families with kids get an especially sweet deal as the kids’ club is free, allowing the younger ones to be entertained while parents get to relax at the pool or indulge in treatments at the spa. There’s also a family pool with a shallow area for the littlest tots, a small water slide and a waterfall.
The Grand Wailea is known as the most amenity-packed resort on Maui, including a remarkably elaborate pool complex that’s really more of a water amusement park with whitewater rapids, four water slides, a lazy river, rope swings, caves and even a water elevator that’s inside of a man-made volcano. Coupled with the property’s 20,000-square-foot kids’ camp, no one will complain about boredom here. It includes a PlayStation room, video arcade and small movie theater. There are also four restaurants and a massive spa.

And, it offers a ton of amenities too, including a massive pool complex with a 150-foot water slide, rope bridge, waterfalls and separate children’s area. While it doesn’t have a kids’ club, supervised activities are available for a fee throughout the day. Guests of all ages are sure to enjoy encounters with penguins, parrots and flamingos that roam the grounds.
The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua on Maui’s northwest coast is known for its jaw-dropping views of Molokai Island and it also offers lots of family-friendly activities through the Ritz Kids program and Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ambassadors of the Environment program, which provides excursions for adults, families and children led by expert naturalists. Rooms and suites are extra spacious, and there are six restaurants which all source local ingredients from the property’s organic garden, like the especially tasty, fresh Hawaiian cuisine at The Banyan Tree. A long list of adventures is offered too, from whale watching and snorkeling to stand-up paddling, surfing and more.
