While Glendale, Arizona, may be known for it’s spectacular Christmas celebrations, an impressive development known as Crystal Lagoon Island Resort will bring more fun in the sun to the city, including the first-ever Mattel Adventure Park. The development will be built around an 11-acre lagoon, complete with sandy beaches and different themed “towns,” or rather destinations, that guests can meander to throughout their stay. The world-class entertainment and sports venue is expected to open in 2022 and should be an economic boon for the region over the next 25 years, according to the city of Glendale.
Along with a tiki-style island sector, a classic coastal town, and other themed “realms,” will be Mattel Adventure Park. The toy company has joined forces with Crystal Lagoon Island Resort, to conceptualize a playground of sorts, that will fulfill the dreams of kids and kids-at-heart. A Hot Wheels roller coaster will have guests zipping above the skyline of the park, which is a dream come true for anyone who loved playing with the classic toy as a kid. An intricate go-kart track, and other thrills for various ages, will be worked in. But we think everyone is equally excited about the life-size Thomas the Tank Engine, that will bring the entire idea to life. All aboard!
In addition to Mattel Adventure Park, there will be a vast selection of top tier restaurants, luxurious hotels, and a wealth of retail shops for souvenirs and convenience. Like France and Dubai, the park has elected to erect a 130-foot bar, which will serve as the ultimate sports hub with bird’s-eye views. The lagoon is impressively deep, and will be able to accommodate watercraft, while guests can also opt to paddleboard, kayak, or simply swim. Multiple different experiences can be had in a day, which is pretty cool. It’s like jet setting, without the jet.
