Experience A Float Down North Georgia’s Natural Lazy River

The ultimate summer vacation also should include a little relaxation. In Georgia, that means soaking up the scenic views from one of the state’s most beloved waterways. Thankfully, The Peach State has one of the most well-known bodies of water in its natural lazy river—The Chattahoochee River. It converges between the southern half of the Alabama and Georgia border and takes a portion of the Florida and Georgia border. The area is known for its natural beauty and countryside views that relax the mind. It combines adventure and tranquility for the perfect lazy getaway that any nature-loving and adventure-seeking traveler can enjoy this summer.

The Chattahoochee River begins in the North Georgia mountains and winds through the state. There are plenty of opportunities to grab your innertube and try to, as the locals call it, “Shoot the Hooch.” The chance to go tubing down the Chattahoochee River is available in several locations. Cool River Tubing in Helen, Georgia, is one of the most popular recreational spots. According to reviews over the past several years, the trip is well worth it!

Cool River Tubing offers one-hour and two-hour tubing trips down the calm waters of the Chattahoochee. You’ll first travel upriver on one of the company’s buses to the put-in points along the river. From there, you’ll journey down the river through scenic forest views and return to the heart of the Alpine-themed city of Helen.

One tube trip at Cool River Tubing costs $8 per person. You can also purchase an all-day tubing pass for $12. You must be at least three years old to go tubing, and children age 12 and under must wear lifejackets. If you know that you can’t leave your furry family member at home, you can bring your pooch on the ‘Hooch to enjoy a day on the water with you.

Before heading out on the ‘Hooch, knowing what attire to wear for safety and ultimate fun is essential. Remember to wear water shoes as the river bed will likely have sharp rocks. Every pup can use a lifejacket to enjoy safe and fun family time riding down the lazy river. You may also want to bring a push stick to help you keep away from the banks as you float downstream. If you want more than just a relaxing lazy day on the river, add a waterslide adventure to your itinerary for just $5 more per person.
