The ultimate summer vacation also should include a little relaxation, and in Georgia that means soaking up the scenic views from one of the state’s most beloved waterways. Thankfully, one of The Peach State’s most well-known bodies of water is also a natural lazy river, combining the perfect mix of adventure and tranquility.

The Chattahoochee River begins in the North Georgia mountains and winds through the state, with plenty of opportunities to grab your innertube and “Shoot the Hooch,” as the locals call it. River tubing on the Chattahoochee is available in a number of locations, and one of the most popular spots is Cool River Tubing in Helen, Ga.
Cool River Tubing offers one-hour and two-hour tubing trips down the calm waters of the Chattahoochee. You’ll first travel up-river on one of the company’s buses to the put-in points along the river. From there, you’ll journey down the river through scenic forest views and make your way back to the heart of Alpine-themed city of Helen.
One tube trip at Cool River Tubing costs $8 per person or you can purchase an all-day tubing pass for $12. You must be at least 3 years old to go tubing and children ages 12 and under must wear lifejackets. And if you’re dog enjoys a day on the water, you can bring your pooch on the ‘Hooch too.
Before heading out on the ‘Hooch, be sure to wear water shoes, as the river bed will likely have sharp rocks. You may also want to bring a push stick to help you keep away from the banks as you float downstream. If you want more than just a relaxing day on the river, you can add a waterslide adventure to your itinerary for $5 per person too.
