Dublin, Ga., may be a small Southern town, but it hosts a big celebration for St. Patrick’s Day. The city puts on a 50-day St. Patrick’s Festival made up of an enormous list of activities, including parades, art festivals and car shows. The most unique celebration during this six weeks of fun is the Irish Balloon Fest & Glow — a whole weekend of hot air balloon races, including the famous “glow” flight. The two-day balloon festival kicks off on March 9 when the balloons lift off from Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin to make their way to the event’s actual site, Southern Pines Regional Park. On the morning of March 10, the balloons will again fill the sky with a rainbow of color. For a third time, at 6:30 p.m., the balloons will take off and fill the skies with a soft glow in celebration of the Irish holiday.

Activities for the kids have been available in previous years, and are presumed to be a part of the celebration this year as well. Food vendors serving tasty treats also will be on site.

Depending on the weather, and at the discretion of the balloon operators, tether balloon flights will be available for around $150. Passengers are elevated above beautiful Dublin, while being connected by a cable to the ground below to ease the minds of those who may be afraid of heights!
