The Netflix series “Stay Here,” which premiered in 2018, starred designer Genevieve Gorder from TLC’s “Trading Spaces” and “HGTV Design Star,” and real estate expert Peter Lorimer. A reality real estate makeover show, it transformed rentals into fabulous magazine-worthy spaces. While some have since closed, one of the most popular is still operating. The Vintage Ranch provides a romantic retreat in Paso Robles wine country near California’s Central Coast.
Since the makeover, it’s been selling out months in advance. If you’re hoping to stay, you’ll want to book well ahead with the next availability six months out. It would be ideal for a romantic Valentine’s stay, or close to the holiday, as it’s already booked for February 14.
The cottage is often used for newlyweds who tie the knot right on the ranch. Not surprisingly, The Vintage Ranch is a popular 66-acre event and wedding venue. It includes a farmhouse, 250-year-old oak tree and 50 acres of grapevines that make it incredibly Instagrammable.
The property (and the cottage) is so photogenic, it’s often used for photoshoots. Guests can explore lots right here, including the acres of working vineyards, private hiking trails, nature and wildlife. It even has a cave.
While you can (and should) sample bottles made from grapes grown right on the farm, as the rental is right in the heart of wine country, there are many other opportunities for tasting and touring too. In fact, this region is home to over 200 different wineries and it’s jam-packed with eateries serving contemporary wine country cuisine. You can even enjoy olive oil tastings at a number of facilities. Plus, there are countless beautiful beaches a little over a 30-minute drive away.
The original-era guest cottage was totally “reimagined inside and out” with numerous romantic touches, including a beautiful queen-size bed inside the designer master bedroom.
Despite the smaller size, there’s a great kitchen when you want to make your own meals, and lots of beautiful personal touches throughout, including fresh flowers.
The highlight is arguably the setting. In addition to the vineyards and mature trees, the cottage has it’s own private landscaped olive tree garden. You’ll want to spend plenty of time here with a porch and patio to hang out on as you sip wine, enjoying the results of the winemaker owner’s efforts. It can also be enjoyed around the fire pit under the stars. If a little friendly competition is in order, play a traditional game of horseshoes.
There’s no TV here, as it’s all about spending quality time with the one you love. You will have a wonderful vintage clawfoot tub, cozy bathrobes, and access to laundry facilities in the main house, along with some of the most friendly and hospitable hosts you’ll ever meet.
