Just a short drive from downtown Sarasota, Siesta Key is an eight-mile barrier island that runs along Florida’s Gulf Coast, known for its fine sand and breathtaking turquoise water views. Consistently ranked the top beach in the United States, Siesta Key’s unique powder-white, 99% quartz sand sets the appearance of sand sculptures being carved out of marble.
Competing for a top prize, professional sand sculptors do their best to create dynamic displays of their art in just 24 hours over the four-day event, while an amateur competition lets everyone get in on the action. Watch as these artists carve beautiful sculptures out of huge mounds of sand and marvel at the amount of intricate detail goes into each piece.
Considered a visual and cultural arts festival, this festival is in its 8th year, hosting more than 200,000 attendees along the Siesta Key shoreline. Meander through the life-size displays, some over 10-feet tall, and watch as the beach transforms into a vibrant outdoor art gallery.
A weekend of sand sculpting demonstrations, lessons, live music and entertainment, this event is much more than just its friendly sand sculpting competition. You’ll find a large village of shopping in addition to local food and drink vendors, while a popular “Quick Sand” competition and an educational “The Learning Curve” area make this an event the entire family can enjoy.
Watch as the Master Sculptors come and showcase their talents and see who wins the coveted 1st place ribbon for both Judge’s Choice and the People’s Choice. Stay until the sun sets and watch as the event kicks into high gear with live music and libations, while the impressive sand sculptures are illuminated by a beautiful light display.
