If you’ve ever driven near the Georgia-Tennessee border, chances are that you’ve noticed billboards that say, “See Rock City.” This popular roadside attraction is on top of Lookout Mountain in Georgia and also just a few miles from downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee. About half a million people from all over the globe see this natural/man-made attraction each year!

Start your journey through Rock City by walking along the 4,100-foot Enchanted Trail, which leads you across bridges, past lovely flowers, and even through caves. The trail and outdoor terrace at Cafe 7 are dog-friendly, so bring your pup along for the adventure!

The most iconic sight at Rock City is Lover’s Leap, which is a rock formation that was named for two Cherokee lovers who lost their lives here. There’s a viewing platform here that offers incredible views on a clear day.

One of the most unique parts of Rock City is Fairytale Caverns, which celebrates the fairytales we grew up with in haunting black light. One of Rock City’s founders, Frieda Utermoehlen Carter, loved folklore and fairytales and hired a sculptor to create these beautiful scenes. You’ll also encounter many friendly gnomes on your walk through the caves. Mother Goose Village features scenes from classic nursery rhymes.

But the gnomes and fairies of Rock City don’t just live in caves. They also live in the onsite gift shop, so you can take one home with you to remember your journey.

The hours of operation vary by season, so check Rock City’s website for the most up-to-date admission information. Kids’ experiences, like a rock climbing wall and mining for gemstones, are also offered seasonally.
You can listen to live music here on weekends in the summer and plan to attend fun holiday events like Rocktoberfest in October and the Enchanted Garden of Lights during the Christmas season. While you’re here, you can also grab a light meal or tasty snack at Big Rock Grill, Starbucks, Dippin Dots, or the Fudge Kitchen.
