Mystic Grill sets on the Covington Square, famously known for being the filming hub of the Vampire Diaries. Rooftop dining space offers picturesque views of the quaint town, and the downstairs bar has been designed to mimic one from the show. Come play a round of pool, enjoy local fare, and maybe even trek next door for a Vampire Diaries Tour.

Mystic Grill’s eclectic building has been around since 1906–C.S. Thompson constructed it originally as the Bank of Covington. Many more businesses, such as the Peggy Lee dress shop, Sears, Kesler’s Billard Parlor and Mickey’s Grill, would reside here before Mystic Grill would call it home. But in 1883, before this structure even existed, Robert Bagby owned a saloon at the very same spot. Some suspect his spirit still looms.

Sustainability and local growth are the core methods behind Mystic Grill’s upscale southern, chef driven menu. Local vendors include
Burge Organic Farm, Mitcham Farms, Newton County Academy, Doux South, North Georgia’s Mercier Orchards and CJ Orchards. Bread & Butter Bakery also resides on the square, serving the most amazing bread and pastries—Mystric Grill sources from here too; now that’s local!

Like any fantastic, local restaurant, it’s hard to pick the best items, but we’ll try. First and foremost is the Sweet Tea Fried Chicken, which gets soaked in real southern sweet tea before it is breaded and fried! Buttermilk mashed potatoes compliment the chicken flawlessly, while seasoned green beans round it all out.
Shrimp and Grits seamlessly combine southern and sea fare—the plump gulf shrimp in this dish set on a buttery spread of stone ground grits, which are garnished with hearty bacon and a tangy cilantro lime sauce. Burgers here are downright amazing too—be sure to get pimento cheese on yours!

Mystic’s desserts are all made from scratch—southern momma’s everywhere would be proud. Scoops is a throwback ice cream parlor that sits adjacent on the square, if your looking or another “cool” experience for your night out in Covington.
