New England is a destination for lovers, thanks to so many quaint places to stay and romantic attractions to experience in each other’s company. In this iconic part of the country, it’s fun to take scenic drives, long hikes on the nature trails, and explore the local shops for one-of-a-kind gifts. There are also lots of romantic hotels, inns, B&Bs, and resorts in the New England states for couples to relax and unwind from their usually busy lives. Blantyre is a luxurious country house hotel and romantic resort in the Berkshires of Massachusetts. This is a luxury Forbes five-star resort with a spa, fine dining, and activities like tennis and croquet. The mansion was built in 1902 and is on 110 acres of lawn and woodlands in western Massachusetts. Couples can stay in the Manor House suites and rooms that are full of history, the Carriage House a short walk away, or the self-contained cottages for more privacy. The Bistro Restaurant offers all meals of fine dining, and a prix fixe dinner is served in the conservatory in the evenings from Wednesday through Sunday. The spa offers personalized services for couples with a variety of wellness treatments. To get active, you can stay here and go skiing, snowshoeing, or ice skating together in the winter, or visit the Norman Rockwell Museum any time of the year.
Block Island is about 12 miles from the Rhode Island coast and accessible by ferry or small plane. This makes the Island Manor Resort ideal for couples looking for a remote and peaceful getaway. Here couples will find plenty of small-town charm and have lots of activities to choose from, including horseback riding, parasailing, and kayaking. You don’t need a car to get around here, and the resort offers studio and one-bedroom suites with fully equipped kitchens. The resort is in walking distance to town, has a picnic area with fire pit, and barbecue grills available for use. Only service animals, not pets, are allowed at the resort, and there is a minimum stay requirement of seven nights between Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day weekend.
Made Inn Vermont is an urban chic boutique inn that’s a bed and breakfast perfect for fun-loving couples. This New England couple’s retreat is in the Historic Hill district of Burlington and filled with contemporary artworks and eccentric touches. The vibe is hipster, elegant, Victorian, and romantic all at the same time. There are four guest rooms with private, detached bathrooms located down the hall, and each of the rooms has its own unique personality. Onsite perks for couples who stay here include gourmet breakfasts each morning, a hot tub, mini fridges stocked with goodies, plush bathrobes, and Wi-Fi access throughout the inn. For creative couples, there is also a record player and vinyl collection in every guest room, as well as a blackboard wall with chalk to write or draw something that inspires you.
This Maine resort is also great for couples who want a little luxury in their trip together. It’s open year-around and set on the edge of a cliff on Maine’s rocky coastline. The Cliff House first welcomed guests in 1872 and stretches across 70 oceanfront acres on top of Bald Head Cliff. There are 226 stylish guest rooms and suites here, as well as a cottage, wellness center, luxury spa, and oceanfront dining. Couples enjoy Maine-inspired cuisine and hand-crafted cocktails at Nubb’s Lobster Shack, the Tiller Restaurant, and the Tidemark Terrace. The Kearsage Inn in North Conway is a cozy place to stay for a romantic getaway filled with hiking, biking, skiing, and shopping. This inn underwent an extensive restoration in 2002 but still has the feel of a late-1800s village residence. Here you can book a room with a fireplace, jetted tub, and spacious living room. It’s even dog-friendly if you want to bring your pup along. The Horsefeathers restaurant serves up warm and delicious food, and Deacon Street is a great martini and whiskey bar. Nearby, you and your partner can experience the local arts scene at the Cold River Radio Show, Mountain Top Music Center, and the Stone Mountain Arts Center.
This mansion is another Maine resort that’s wonderful for couples. It is a AAA four-diamond bed and breakfast that has modern touches, like Wi-Fi, cable TV, and quiet A/C units. Couples who stay here enjoy the intimate day spa, wine cellar, and being in a quiet residential neighborhood that’s close to lots of tourist activities. Couple’s and romance packages are offered here when you stay at one of the Captain Lord rooms. The mansion is just a few short blocks from the Port’s Dock Square with so many restaurants and shops. Each morning, the resort serves breakfast with fresh ingredients, organically farmed eggs, and Maine maple syrup.
Surrounded by the Green Mountains of Vermont, the Woodstock Inn & Resort offers seasonally inspired menus, a 10,000-square-foot spa, and a farm-to-table program with an onsite and holistic food supply. There are 142 rooms and suites here for year-around romance and also four distinct restaurants led by a talented culinary team.
Another great New England resort for couples is Newport Beach Hotel & Suites. This hotel has an indoor pool, hot tub, day spa, roof deck, and free Wi-Fi. It’s an oceanfront hotel with Flo’s Clam Shack next door to the hotel and the Atlantic Grill, which serves up the best breakfast in Newport.
