Located five miles east of Marianna in Jackson County, Jackson Blue Springs pumps an average of 77 million gallons of water a day. Designated a First Magnitude Spring of Florida, it supplies water to the 202-acre Merritt’s Mill Pond reservoir, which is also a nationally known fishing area.

At Merritt’s Mill Pond, you can have fun boating, fishing, snorkeling, swimming, paddling the day away. Rentals are available at Blue Springs Park. You can book a cave diving experience through Cave Adventurers. Lodging in hotels is approximately 2.5 miles from the base of Merritt’s Mill Pond or 8 miles from Blue Springs Park. If you want to keep your stay more rustic, you can stay at the Arrowhead Campground.

Feeling the Florida heat? Take a dip in the headwater area of Jackson Blue Springs, as it is a hotspot for swimmers of all ages with its alluring waters and shallow bowl around the spring vent.

There’s plenty of areas to discover in the park, with small pockets of crystalline waters also found in the Shangri-La Springs, Twin Cave Springs, Hole in the Wall Springs and Gator Hole Spring.

Scuba divers are in for a special treat with a day of open diving, as the complex cave system offers you a chance to explore limestone caves that stretch up to 5,000 feet in length and observe aquatic dwelling animals such as the Georgia Blind Salamander and Dougherty Plain Cave Crayfish.

After you’ve spent some time in the water, get out and explore the rest of the natural landscapes that surround the park. Admire ferns, cypress stands, pines, magnolias and other hardwoods and look up to see glimpses of Florida’s colorful birdlife that include Kingfisher, Rough-winged Swallow, and Bank Swallow. Best of all, keep your eyes peeled for turtles basking in the sunshine on old floating logs.

Traveling with the kids? Play a game at the volleyball courts, let them loose in the children’s playground or relax on the park benches and picturesque beach area. During the summer season, lifeguards keep watch of the designated swimming area.

The summer fun at Jackson Blue Springs Recreational Area isn’t fully absorbed in just a short day’s visit. You can spend an infinite amount of time exploring the diverse area by visiting Florida’s only air-filled cave at Florida Caverns State Park, discovering new fishing spots,  swimming holes, equestrian trails and more!
