Tybee Island is both a refuge for wildlife among the lovely natural marshes and a historically enriched beachside getaway along Georgia’s coveted Golden Isles. Yes, the sunsets are as amazing as you’d imagine. Southern cuisine and heavy seafood availability have wonderfully influenced the food scene, which can offer anything from the best shrimp and grits you’ve ever had to a home-cooked meal at one of the precious inns. More bed and breakfasts dominate the lodging scene rather than big, mainstream hotels, so you’ll find it to have a quaint charm unbeatable by any other island.

Desoto Beach Hotel - Oceanfront (Prices & Photos)
A refined pool area sits oceanfront, with unobstructed views of the Atlantic—it’s one of the best pools on the island. Even if you don’t book one of the rooms that directly faces the water and sand, you have a clear shot from a side balcony, so the incredible views are abundant at DeSoto. A simple but tasty continental breakfast of breads, pastries and cereal can easily be taken to go, and enjoyed in the Golden Isle sunshine. Meeting the standards of big name hotels, it’s a good option for families looking for something practical.
Beachview Bed & Breakfast (Prices & Photos)
Like a southern mansion with all the hospitality such as snacks through the day, iced tea and beach chairs, Beachview is an amazing crossover between a hotel and an inn. Breakfast is beyond your basic continental, offering real, homemade dishes like warm, soft biscuits and creamy gravy, insanely good blueberry French toast and other staples like fresh fruit and yogurt. Your one block walk to the beach will be just what you need after a big meal like that. Be sure to take some time to lounge on the porch, as it’s just as much part of the experience as anything else at this stunning escape from the world.
Admiral's Inn on Tybee Island (Prices & Photos)
Don’t you love it when a beach hotel has those wood floors in the room instead of carpet? It’s so much easier and it feels considerably cleaner, while adding a refined feel. Newly renovated, the Admiral’s Inn is updated but affordable, coming in as low as $60 a night during the off-season, which is a great time for a less crowded getaway. Breakfast is free and consists of basics like cereal, danishes and other fresh pastries, and the quirky patio design around the outdoor pool adds to the cute nature of the hotel. While not right on the beach, a short one block walk will take you there. This is also a great pick for those looking for the traditional hotel stay.
Hotel Tybee (Prices & Photos)
Stretching over an expansive portion of the Island, Hotel Tybee has been around for quite some time and has undergone modernizing renovations. Rooms are pretty basic with expected aesthetics and comfy beds, but the location is spectacular and proximal to the pier and pavilion—Savannah is also a mere 20-minute drive away. If you’re looking for a straightforward beach vacation, this is it.
Surf and Song Bed & Breakfast (Prices & Photos)
Surf and Song is a gorgeous Victorian home that’s been converted into a southern island retreat. Breakfast can either be enjoyed in one of the homey indoor rooms, or on the scenic wraparound porch, which is highly recommended. Fluffy pancakes with rich blueberry syrup (they’ll even make a gluten-free variation) and their famous breakfast banana splits are among guest favorites, but the crab cake eggs Benedict is raved about too. The inn has earned a solid five rating on TripAdvisor, which really says something about the attention to detail and amazing accommodations. So much care, right down to the clean-cut pool area, has made this an island favorite.
Tybee Island Inn (Prices & Photos)
Defined by a beautifully planked outdoor oasis with shading trees and soft lighting, it’s becoming clear that the island has excellent B&B game. With mossy trees draping over the traditional home, guests can really get a sense of Tybee right here. Breakfast consists of interchanging dishes such as a peaches and yogurt, sausage, and freshly made pastries. Vintage looking bikes are available to take around the island, which is a fantastic way to soak in the environment.
Lighthouse Inn bed & Breakfast (Prices & Photos)
We might as well round it out with another fine bed and breakfast. You likely will find sitting on the wraparound front porch to be just as peaceful as lounging oceanfront listening to the crashing waves. Although small with just a few rooms, this little cottage on the north end of Tybee Island is a treasure and is located near great restaurants which you could easily bike to. There you have it, while there’s not a long list of establishments in the area, Tybee is the place to find the cutest retreats with amazing southern hospitality.
