Welcoming the New Year is a symbolic and exciting thing; making it special is important. Perhaps you’d rather snuggle up at home with snacks and champagne, but if you’re looking to venture out, these Atlanta celebrations will make lifelong memories for you and your family.
Dropping of the Edelweiss (Nearby Hotels)
Georgia’s adorable alpine village, Helen, will be celebrating the oncoming of 2018 from 8-12pm this New Year’s Eve. Just 20 bucks per person, or 35 per couple , will buy you an evening of music, snacks, dancing, and midnight champagne for toasting. Kids are half price, and little ones under 6 are free. If you were wondering, The Edelweiss is a flower found high in the Alps; Helen’s light up version mimics all of the other popular countdown “drops” in the US.
Up the Cup (Nearby Hotels)
In Savannah, on River Street, tradition is reversed by sending a giagantic to-go cup up the side of a building. There will be a flashy lights show, and the cup rising will be followed by fireworks that beautifully reflect over the water. The big cup draws quite a crowd, and may even be the biggest New Year toast ever.
Sips Under the Sea (Nearby Hotels)
Sips Under the Sea Black and White New Year’s Celebration is a themed fundraiser to benefit the endangered African Penguin. Of course, being the stars of the event, the penguins will be there, along with otters, sharks, and other magnificent sea animals. It’s suggested that guests show up in black and white attire, because why wouldn’t you want to coordinate with the special guests? General admission includes an open bar, live music, party favors, a festive champagne toast at midnight, and late night snacks like Monte Cristo sandwiches, chicken and waffles, fried mac and cheese, cookies and brownies. VIP tickets offer even more, but are already sold out for this year.

Many kids have to miss out on New Year’s festivities, because midnight is a bit beyond bedtime. So Stone Mountain Park is hosting an early countdown at 8:59pm. The Snow Angel will stop buy to make flurries fall from the sky, and fireworks will light up the night. Christmas lights in the village and other festive activities will operate as normal, so there’s plenty to do!
Live at the Battery Atlanta (Nearby Hotels)
The party will be hopping from 8pm to 1am, with a premium, mouthwatering Buffet, action stations, live music, New Year’s party favors, dancing and a midnight countdown featuring the Times Square Ball Drop on a gigantic LED Screen. This is a good “go to” for those wanting to hit the club scene for the night.
Peach Drop (Nearby Hotels)
Definitely the most iconic Atlanta celebration is the Peach Drop, and it is approaching its 28th year. The Annual Peach Drop takes place at Underground; you’ll get to witness the 800 pound fruit slowly lower down the giant tower to welcome 2018. I’m the past, up to 150,000 have showed up, so be ready to practice patience when navigating through the traffic. But the fun crowd and amazing display of fireworks truly add to the New Year experience; it is something to do at least once.
