While experienced skiers tackle the thrilling black diamond slopes like White Lightning and Southern Star, new skiers can start out with a lesson in the Play Yard, located right in front of the Ski School. During your one-hour beginner lesson, a professional instructor will teach you the basics of putting on your skis, maneuvering around, stopping and making basic turns. You can also learn more advanced techniques, as your instructor will tailor your lesson to your abilities. Snowboarding lessons are also available.
If you build up an appetite from all your trips up and down the slope, stop off at the cafeteria for a quick bite like a grilled chicken sandwich, salad or hamburger and enjoy the view of the slopes as you eat in front of the large picture windows.
Then, head over to Alpine Village at the base of the mountain and shop for some gear or a souvenir, go skating at the ice rink or go tubing at the state-of-the-art tubing park. The 700-foot runs provide an exciting ride as you fly down the track, going over hills and spinning in circles before reaching the end, where you ride the “magic carpet” back to the top to do it all over again!
Finally, you can end your day at the resort by relaxing with a beer at the Beech Mountain Brewery, also located in Alpine Village. It is one of the only breweries that’s owned and operated by a ski resort in the United States, and offers a cozy environment for relaxing with hardwood floors, a wood fireplace and large windows that overlook the brewing facility. You’ll find eight different brews on tap at any given time including IPA’s, stouts, pilsners and even a hard cider for those gluten-free folks.
During the ski season, you’ll also find plenty of fun, free events here like live music, karaoke, trivia night and beer bingo.
You’ll also find lots of quaint places to discover around the town of Beech Mountain including the Beech Mountain Grille and the Famous Brick Oven Pizzeria – a family owned and operated restaurant with delicious pizzas, pasta dishes, wings and salads, as well as a large selection of beers and an in-house bakery and coffee shop.
Another must-see stop is Fred’s General Merchantile – a Beech Mountain favorite for nearly 40 years that serves as the town’s hardware store, grocery store, ski shop and deli. You’ll find everything you need here for your trip plus a little more!
