If you’re seeking a tropical getaway, you won’t have to go too far if you live in Texas. A Hawaiian-themed island is hiding on a lake in Texas, and it’s sure to make you feel like you’ve traveled miles away, and you won’t even have to leave the Lone Star State.
Son’s Island at Lake Placid in Seguin, Texas, is just a short drive from New Braunfels. The private Hawaiian hideaway is accessed via wooden bridge and once you arrive, you will be transported to a 3.5-acres lakeside paradise complete with tiki-style cabanas. The island features water activities, outdoor adventures and even live music and entertainment on the weekends during warmer months.
A total of 40 open-air cabanas are available for rent by the day. Each cabana rental includes entry for up to eight people, though up to 15 people can gather comfortably for the day. The cabanas are equipped with a picnic table, hammock, lounge chairs, barbecue pit, water, electricity and a private dock for swimming and fishing. You can also bring your own boat or waverunner.
On Son’s Island, there’s no shortage of fun and it makes for a perfect “day-cation,” with activities for family and friends of all ages. Adventure seekers can rent kayaks, paddleboards, hyrobikes and iFloats for some fun on the water. Guests also have access to plenty of great swimming areas around the island and can dive in from the rope swing or waterslide. On land, you can play a game of horseshoes or volleyball, and there’s no better place to simply relax by the water.
The island is open every day between Memorial Day and Labor Day for the summer season and open on weekends in the spring and fall. Son’s Island is closed for the months of December, January and February. If a full day of fun isn’t enough, Son’s Island does have an overnight camping option as well as a vacation rental property with cabins, tepees and a private house.
